Anyone Up For An Ambulance Ride?.......

Our family has had quite the luck lately when it comes to ambulance rides. First my daughter Ashlee got in a car accident and totalled her car about a month ago. She had to get all strapped in this brace and have a nice cozy ambulance ride to the hospital.

Even though her car was totalled and they have had some struggles with getting another car (that works) we feel truly blessed that her and Luke were not injured too bad. The medical bills are nuts when an ambulance ride is included. That is NOT what they needed at this time!!!! UUURRRGGG! They have worked so hard to stay afloat ever since Tyson lost his firefighting job at Sandy. Additional medical bills do not help the situation AT ALL!

After Ash had her fun with the ambulance, I decided it was my turn! I fell in my home and hurt my back pretty bad. Tyson (my own paramedic) was right there to assist me. After a few minutes he felt it was necessary to call an ambulance. April thought she'd be funny and decided to call 911 for me. Okay.... Long story but-as I lay there in PAIN she was asking me if the number to call was 411 or 944 or 199 and so on. She was laughing and I was trying not to laugh because it hurt so bad when I did.

For those of you that don't know why this was amusing for April I will let you in on the story. About 6 years ago my sweet granddaughter had stopped breathing one morning. I tried really hard to stay calm and went to call 911. Well.....I dialed 411. After calmly explaining our emergency to the lady on the other end of the phone, the 411 operator informed me that I had called INFORMATION instead of 911. I hurried and hung up the phone and began frantically dialing again. Well, guess what??? I dialed 411 TWICE!!!!! I finally threw the phone to Lee and had him dial as Shawn and I did the CPR.

Now six years later, it was time for April to do the dialing. After a few laughs he got it right and soon the ambulance was on there way to my home. I don't remember much of anything because I was in a HUGE amount of pain. I enjoyed my ride in the ambulance because they kept pumping me full of pain medication. By the time I got to the hospital I was pretty LOOOOPY!

Luke was the third to have an ambulance ride in the past month from our family.

He had been a little sick so Ash took him into the doctor at Saint Mark's Hospital. After checking him out the doctor told her he needed to get to Primary Children's Hospital as soon as possible. They did not let Ash just drive him up there because his oxygen level was at 80 and he was very lethargic. The paramedic thought Luke probably had pneumonia. The ambulance escorted Luke and Ash up to the other hospital. YEAH another ambulance ride and the MEDICAL BILL that goes along with it. Not good!!!

I arrived at the hospital to see my little guy snoozing.....

But even in his sleep he was calling out to me....

See how he is saying "T" with his hand....

That's me!

This picture doesn't show how red his face really was but it was BEET red. He had a fever and you could tell he did not feel well at all! Poor little guy!

Hugs from mommy.....

And Daddy......

Once he woke up he started to seem like he was feeling better as long as he was in his daddy's arms.

He got one of the syringes and started squirting his dad...

Aaaahhhh there is my Lukie's sweet smile.......

The doctors had told Ash and Ty that Luke would probably have to stay in the hospital for a few days. I thought he would be so bored so I went down to buy him some toys to entertain him. Maybe it would get his mind off all of the tubes and oxygen they had on him. He loved this sparkly bouncing ball the best.

He was NOT happy to have the oxygen on his nose or the breathing treatments he needed to have every few hours. He would just scream and we had to hold him down. NOT GOOD! This boy can really belt out a BIG SCREAM! He definitely was NOT a HAPPY CAMPER at this point.

It was fun to see his attitude change once Papa Howie walked into the room. He had just had a breathing treatment and had been crying pretty bad. Papa Howie knows just what to do to cheer him up.

Before long he was all giggles.....

Howie had him laughing so hard as the two of them were playing together. The nurses were probably wondering what was going on in the room. I think Howie is just like Patch Adams. (If you have seen the movie) Always making people laugh to help them forget why they are in the hospital in the first place. I love these short little video clips of the two of them playing together.

Luke was released a few days later and the doctors said he had walking pneumonia. Brayden also had it but the both of them were treated with medicine and are doing great now. It is so hard to see your loved ones in the hospital but I feel blessed to live so close to the Primary Children's Hospital because you know that your child is in good hands. The doctors and nurses there are so talented and know just how to help you out.

Hmmmmm.....Who will be the next in our family to ride in an ambulance????
