After hanging out at the outlook area we headed to the beach. When I looked back I saw the girls dozing off. It reminded me of when they were young. Ashlee's head use to always rest on her BIG sister's shoulder as she slept in the car. I think I have many photos of them when they were small that resemble this picture.
This picture too :)
My crazy girls are awake and ready to hit the beach....
Waikiki Beach....Here we COME!
As soon as we set up our umbrella and were settling down we were approached by a guy teaching surfing lessons. Ash decided to GO FOR IT! I wish so bad that I was able to join in on the fun. My neck is so messed up that I can't do much of anything anymore. Bummer!
After watching the 10 minute lesson I was convinced that I could do it. In fact I almost jumped in and joined them but I am still terrified of water without a life jacket and I would look like a giant NERD if I was wearing one.
Getting up on the surfboard seemed very similar to getting up on a knee board.
Once you are standing it seemed like it was a lot like wake boarding (which by the way....I LOVE). I did hear the man say that you lean forward with the weight on your front foot instead of your back leg like wakeboarding. Ashlee's board that she is practicing on looks like JAWS took a bite out of the top end of it.
All dressed and ready to give it a try....Go FOR IT DAWN!
Last minute pointers before they head into the water.....
Hey...I could do handle surfing if I could just stand on the sand. I don't have to worry about falling and bashing my neck up or worry about drowning. This is MY kind of SURFING! If you notice the lady just beside Ahslee who is also learning. Well, she is 70 years old and has been struggling with cancer. She is now cancer free and thought this would be something fun to do in her LATER years. If this old lady could do it SO COULD I! Next trip to Hawaii maybe!!!
Time to give it a try on the WATER!
Look out JAWS here she comes
Each time she stood up she would do this little "adjust the swimsuit thing" I think she does the same thing when she wakeboards. She refuses to surf with a "MELVIN" even if adjusting it makes her TURF!
She had a good time and the next day she really paid for it. Her arms were so stiff and sore from all of the paddling. Maybe I'm glad I didn't try. She was really aching!
This is a short video of the VERY FIRST time that Ash attempted to surf. SHE STOOD UP ON THE FIRST TRY! WAY TO GO!!!
Just chillin' on the floaters. It is so relaxing I could lay out here FOREVER! I love to just lay and watch all of the people around me having fun. It is crazy that I love the water so much, I love all water sports, AND...I have a pool in my backyard YET....I CAN NOT SWIM!!! CRAZY! Just too nervous to relax and swim. I am too afraid to drown. Came close to drowning as a young girl and ever since then I freak out in deep water. BUT give me a life jacket or floaters and I am set. AAAAhhhhhhh Relaxing!
It was a beautiful day on the beach. I felt a little guilty having a great time while Howie had to be at work. NOT FAIR for him but FUN for me. April didn't spend much time in the sun either. She has a problem with Melanoma so after an hour or so she headed off to go shopping while Ash and I played. She is in HEAVEN when she is able to shop. Even if it is only window shopping. NOT ME!!! I ABSOLUTELY hate, hate, hate shopping! Can't give up the money that is so hard to earn. Our day at the beach was very enjoyable. Time to head back and get ready for our dinner experience.

Fantastic!!!
Wow, I think I can hardly wait to go to Hawaii, too, someday, but flying there over ALL that WATER is going to be a huge problem for me - maybe they can knock me out for the trip?
GOOD JOB to your daughter on her surfing! Wowza!! My ex-husband's oldest son (he has two from a previous marriage) started learning how to surf when he had just turned 50, and now he's ranked in the Top Five for the entire state of California. He went surfing with a buddy once a few years ago, when his buddy was bit by a shark (yes, Kennie was in the water at the same time, it could have been him!), Kennie went back the next day to the very same spot! I told him he was beyond crazy, and he said, "Kari, what are the odds of a shark attack at the very same location two days in a row? This is the safest spot on earth!"
I still think he's crazy, but he enjoys it immensely!
Me - give me a crochet hook and a TON of yarn, I'm an afghan maker...
and I totally agree with your fear of water - for the same reason, sadly. *shrug* it happens.
Thanks tons for sharing!!
I had a blast floaty-surfing with you! :) Thanks!
I forgot all about the float tube surfing that we did! After we got beyond the reef it was pretty FUN! I really don't think we were suppose to be out that far but OH WELL! It was a BLAST! Wish I would have written about it! I probably forgot a lot about the trip that I have left out. You can write what I leave out on your post if you decide to do the Hawaii trip. I love you, Ape
