QUACK-QUACK.......

One day this summer I was in the backyard just hanging out on my swing when I looked over by our shed and saw this family of ducks. The mom leading the way and all of her babies just waddling along after her.

They snuck through my flower bed and headed up to the deck by the pool.

At first I thought this was so cute BUT.... anyone who owns a pool knows what a MESS these critters make. I try all year to scare them away but they just keep returning.

The mom was pretty daring to take her little family this close to such a maniac! ME!
I wanted to scare them away so they would know that they were not welcome in my backyard anymore. The closer I got to them to scoot them away, the closer they came to the edge of the pool.

Before long they were swimming around in my pool. THEY BETTER NOT POOP! I tried to scare them away by splashing water on them and they just swam around as if they enjoyed it.

After a while the mom got startled and flew away leaving her "little ones" behind. (What kind of mom does that anyway?) The problem was that they were too small to get out of the pool by themselves. Howie and I spent the next hour or so trying to capture them. Their mom was flying overhead sqawking away! It took us so long to rescue them because each time we got close to them with the net they would dive down to the bottom of the pool and swim to the other end. I was AMAZED how long they could hold their breath. They would pop up their heads at the other side of the pool, see us, and then promptly dive down again to swim to safety. We ran from side to side trying to capture them. They would strategically hide under the rafts or the ladder. We had a box and gathered them one by one. Our plan was to take them to the canal when their mom returned. Their mom did come back and it was pretty hilarious watching Mike and Steve running around the backyard with the sheets trying to catch it. It was great entertainment especially when I put a money reward on the duck's capture. Mike's family was visiting from California and we had an enjoyable visit with them. The ducks were later returned to the canal and we were able to watch them swim downstream and go safely into their nest.

Nice spin on the end of your story! Karah is still traumatized! (You are going to have 6 ducks coming to your house every year instead of just one!)

Not sure if I want to find out how you finally captured them! ha ha!
Bradley really was hoping for some monetary reward, but now has to earn that money washing the car. I think he'd rather have caught the duck! Shouldn't have such a fun pool for them to swim in!
